Brian Holmes, Anthropocene River

This online map follows the journey of Mississippi: An Anthropocene River, a distributed research project extending from the Headwaters to the Gulf of Mexico. Sponsored by the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the project involved five self-organized “field stations,” a special iteration of the Augsburg University River Semester, and a closing workshop/seminar series at the Center for the Gulf South in New Orleans. The online map was conceived to situate all aspects of the project in a geographical frame, with cartography by Brian Holmes, content by dozens of participants, and interactive technology by Mapseed (www.mapseed.org).
